Mallee is a significant rural electorate of 70,694 sq km stretching from the South Australian border in the west to Campaspe in the east, from Sunraysia and the Murray River in the North, and the Wimmera, Grampians and Western District in the south.

Major industries include dried fruits, wine, citrus, stone fruit, wheat and cereals, sheep, dairying and beef cattle.
